Fine blanking is a unique fully automated heavy gauge precision metal stamping process that can produce up to 100 components per minute.
The difference between D C Ross fine blanked metal components and other methods of metal stamping is fine blanking provides consistent dimensional control every time.

With Fine blanking, components of very high accuracy are attainable in high volume production. Consistent tolerances of plus or minus 0.015mm (0.0006”) are achievable.
The ‘machined like’ edge quality and accuracy of the fine blanked components eliminates the need for secondary machining processes.
Virtually any malleable metal type up to a tensile strength of 700 n/mm² in coiled steel of 277mm (11”) wide and from 0.25mm (0.010”) to 10mm (0.39”) in thickness can be used.
Components can have features such as countersinks, Teeth, extrusions, semi-pierces, weld projections, coined chamfers, counter bores, and offsets applied to them in one triple action pressing operation.
Tooling is generally of a compound nature (as opposed to progressive type). This ensures superior positional accuracy between features.
Fine Blanked Components remain very flat, even where holes are positioned close to the outer profile.
The automatic transmission baffle plate in the adjacent image has 137 holes. The holes and the outer profile are all pierced compoundly (one press stroke) thus no pitching errors between holes. Retention of flatness, exact hole location and a scratch free surface are key requirements of this component.
