Increasing the life of your parts
We offer our clients a complete service across the supply chain through our subsidiary company Ace Metal Treatment Services Pty Ltd – one of Australasia’s leading high-volume metal heat treatment companies.
Located in Melbourne, Australia, our subsidiary delivers premium heat treatments to a variety of industries, using proven technology and modern equipment, including specialized high volume heat treatment, shot peening and metallurgical services.
Founded in 1972 by a group of metallurgists experienced in the automotive, fastener and tool manufacturing industries, we provide metallurgical consulting, alongside a wide range of performance enhancing processes particularly suited to mass-produced components using the latest technology in our NATA accredited laboratory.
Whatever your specific needs, we can help work out the best performance-enhancing heat treatment service for your components.
Special purpose equipment
We use modern computer controlled atmosphere furnaces with electronic data logging to ensure a reproducible, high quality outcome.
- Shot Peening
- Air Peening
- Gas carburising
- Neutral hardening
- Carbon restoration
- Stress relieving
Our six furnaces, including a fully computerised furnace and four sealed quench furnaces with both oil and salt quenching options available, are serviced by qualified metallurgists through a fully equipped metallurgical laboratory.
Prevent fatigue and stress corrosion failures and prolong the life of your part with our shot peening service. All components subject to cyclic loads during service will benefit from this process, particularly springs, gears, shafts, connecting rods and various transmission components.
Small spherical shot bombards the surface of the part to be finished. The shot acts like a peen hammer, dimpling the surface and causing compression stresses under the dimple. As the media continues to strike the part, it forms multiple overlapping dimples throughout the metal surface being treated. The surface compression stress strengthens the metal, ensuring that the finished part will resist fatigue failures, corrosion fatigue and cracking, and galling and erosion from cavitation.
Our wheel-peening machine is suited to delicate parts, while our air peening machine is capable of selective peening a wide variety of larger components. We also have a large tumblast machine suited to volume production, and a multi-axis, PLC-controlled air peening machine, which is the first high tech machine available to service Australasian industry.
